Happy Birthday, Therapy Achievements!
Friday the 13th has always been my lucky day—it’s the day Therapy Achievements was born.

Friday, March 13, 2009 started out like any other morning. I arrived at work ready to begin my first session, but before I could start, my boss pulled me aside and said she needed to talk. She stepped away, and with my patient already waiting, I went ahead and began treatment. Moments later she returned and said, “Today is your last day. We’re closing your program. You can discharge your patients and take them with you.” And then she left.

I was stunned. Taking my patients with me sounded great—except for one detail: I had nowhere to treat them.

As I stood there trying to make sense of what had just happened, my patient, who happened to be a massage therapist, spoke up. “Karen,” she said, “I broke my hand and can’t work right now. You can use my clinic while I’m recovering. That will give you time to get your own place.”

Wow! I had been praying for clarity about what direction to take in my career. You can’t get much clearer than that! And so, Therapy Achievements was born.

At our core, our mission has always been to help people with physical, visual, or cognitive challenges stay engaged in life and reach their fullest potential through high-quality rehabilitation and adaptive technology.

• The yellow color symbolizes compassion—a warm heart and a willingness to lift up our patients, our coworkers, and our community.

• The bridge stands for resourcefulness—the drive to “bridge the gap” between obstacles and solutions, to think creatively, and to always find a way.

When someone comes to Therapy Achievements, they know they will be heard. We are not like any other rehabilitation clinic—we don’t just treat diagnoses. We care about the whole person sitting in front of us. We believe every individual deserves a life of purpose, joy, and independence, and we will do everything we can to help them get there.
