October Rehab Health Events in North Alabama
In October, rehab health events are numerous in North Alabama! This is the month we recognize Physical Therapy, Breast Cancer, World Sight Day, Movement Disorders, Domestic Violence and more.
Rehab Health Awareness and Events in October:
October 2, 2024 is World Sight Day
World Sight Day seeks to bring global attention to vision impairment and blindness. Vision impairment affects people of all ages, with the majority being over the age of 50. Cataract and uncorrected refractive error are the leading causes of vision impairment. Other causes such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, infectious diseases of the eye, and trauma, however, cannot be ignored and need to be addressed.
Vision impairment and blindness can have major and long-lasting effects on all aspects of life, including daily personal activities, interacting with the community, and school and work opportunities. Low Vision Therapy can help. Therapy Achievements has a Low Vision Program that is customized to your individual needs.

Physical Therapy Month
Physical Therapy helps people reduce pain and improve or restore mobility. At Therapy Achievements, our physical therapists perform a comprehensive evaluation of your function to develop a plan of care that is tailored to your needs. They will identify treatment techniques to restore your ability to move, reduce your pain, restore your function, and prevent disability. They will teach you how to manage your condition so that you will achieve improved health and quality of life.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is held every October to promote screening and prevention of the disease. Breast cancer affects 2.3 million people worldwide. And although most people who get it are women, men can get it too. Known best for its pink theme color, the month features campaigns and programs aimed at: supporting people diagnosed with breast cancer, educating people about breast cancer risk factors, encouraging women to go for regular breast cancer screening, educating people about how therapy can help people with breast cancer, and raising funds for breast cancer research.
Movement Disorders Month
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The statitics for domestic violence are heartbreakingly grim:
- Nearly every 1 in 2 women in the United States is going to face physical violence from an intimate partner at some point in their lives.
- Most women in this group have sustained at least one mild brain injury commonly known as a concussion.
- About 81% survivors of domestic violence have had so many hits to the head, they've lost count.
Awareness of risk for concussion in athletes has, fortunately, gained much attention in recent years. But awareness of concussion in doemstic violence falls behind. One single athletic concussion is hard enough to treat. But unlike athletes, survivors of domestic violence do not have "the luxury" of recovering after an injury before they are injured again. If you've suffered concussion or brain injury, Therapy Achievements can help. Our therapists will design a plan to address forgetfulness, problems paying attention, vertigo or any other issues that you struggle with.
