Wheelchair Position for Pressure Relief, Posture, Function, and Participation
This course is designed for clinicians and focuses on the integration of wheelchair primary positioning devices—such as cushions and back supports—into seating systems. It will explore how to optimize seat-to-back angle adjustments, as well as posterior, anterior, and lateral tilts, to enhance pressure relief, postural support, functional ability, and participation.
Participants will gain an overview of how tilt and seat-to-back angle recommendations can be applied across various mobility systems, including strollers, dependent seating, and manual tilt-in-space wheelchairs. Key questions addressed in this course include:
- What are the benefits of increasing or decreasing the seat-to-back angle?
- When should the seat-to-back angle be adjustable?
- What are the advantages of fixed seat-to-back angles?
- How and when should tilt be used?
- How can tilt be meaningfully incorporated into a rider’s daily routine?
The course will include current evidence and real-world rider experiences to illustrate how seat-to-back angle and tilt adjustments can be used effectively in clinical practice. CEUs are available and food will be provided. Scan the QR Code to register or call (256) 863-3604 to register,
